Cari Chernichen

(President and Director of Product Development & Implementation)

One of my favorite quotes is “Be fair with others, but keep after them until they’re fair with you.” In my business world where my focus is workplace safety and environmental protection programs, fair means creating HSE programs that work exceptionally well for customers who share in their development and continuous improvement.

In a nutshell, we build based on customer need, customers give us feedback, we improve and the customer gets better value. To me, that’s incredibly fair! I love working this way because it allows me to build solid relationships with my customers, use my expertise and creativity and create some really great programs!

I’ve been developing HSE programs since the late 80’s and have worked with approximately 200 companies in oil and gas, mining, power generation, forestry, trucking and other industries. My work has included HSE program development as well as the design and scripting of technical training programs, and working with local and international industry associations and government agencies in the development and improvement of standards and regulatory instruments related to worker health and safety and environmental protection. Most of my work has been in Canada, but I’ve also assisted organizations with US operations and traveled to Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Columbia and Algeria for various project work.

I have always known that I wanted a career that focused on writing. A Journalism program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology got me going and has served me incredibly well. I have also been very fortunate to work with some incredibly smart, professional people within my company and among my customers and technology partners.

In addition to a very rewarding business life, I have had the privilege of volunteering with local community organizations, specifically those focused on youth. Most recently I served as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Youth Singers of Calgary, an amazing organization dedicated to inspiring Calgary youth through music and dance. I also enjoyed many years of volunteering on the football field as a first aider and trainer for kids the Calgary Falcons, working with players aged 6 through 17.
