Hello, I’m Jim Swiss, the CEO and Managing Director for Alliance Borealis Canada Corp (ABCanada). I bring many years of experience in addressing a broad range of environmental and safety issues. Over the years, my work has resulted in reduced levels of risk for both industrial and government clients.
My professional experience includes:
- A Bachelors and Masters Degree in Marine Science at the University of Guelph
- Technical positions within Environment Canada in St John’s and Halifax
- Managerial positions within Dome Petroleum Inc., Amoco Canada Petroleum Co. Inc., the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, and Norcen Energy Resources Inc.
- Ownership and management of Swiss Environment & Safety Inc.
- Ownership and management of Alliance Borealis Canada Corp.
In the environmental area, I have had lengthy involvement in a wide range of issues including project-level responsibilities in the impact assessment, environmental monitoring, and emergency preparedness, to full managerial responsibility for environmental programs within major corporations. I bring a unique mixture of technical knowledge, government experience and industrial practice to ABCanada. I’m able to apply the knowledge gained in each of these areas to offer practical solutions that will work within the range of priorities that exist in industrial operations.
I also have had a wide range of experience in safety management including involvement in the Upstream Petroleum Industry Taskforce on Safety (UPITFOS), management of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producer’s (CAPP) safety program, responsibility for the safety program of a major upstream petroleum company and conduct of a major study of the Partnership in Health and Safety audit program for Alberta Labour.
In addition to these initiatives, I have also provided on-line HSE systems for a large number of companies over the years.
I also specialize in facilitating conferences, meetings, strategic planning sessions and training sessions. This involvement ranges from organizational and planning activities to full participation in the facilitation of specific sessions.
I also have International experience in Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Georgia, Italy, Jordan, Mexico, Peru, Russia, Romania, Turkey, United States, Uruguay, Yemen.
Outside of work, I’ve been involved with numerous volunteer activities including being a cub and scout leader, coaching and umpiring little league baseball, coaching community and high school football, raising funds for the Youth Singers of Calgary and volunteering at the Salish Sea Centre.
